As we approach the new century, we might pause to reflect upon the incredible changes we have seen this past century in the field of chemistry. The advent of quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, mechanistic organic and inorganic synthesis, the unraveling of the DNA double helix are just some examples of the critical developments made this century. Yet, chemists are still publishing their science in a fashion that has not changed significantly in over 300 years! In this talk, I will discuss how the journal will be revolutionized in the near future. Publication will be completely electronic, allowing chemists to disseminate information in ways impossible and perhaps unimaginable prior to just 5 years ago. The journal will become a large fully-functional database. Using the Internet Journal of Chemistry as a model of this new paradigm, I will demonstrate many of the features of the 21st Century Journal.
