O Inter-American Photochemical Society Annual Meeting, ocorrerá na
Cidade de Salvador, Bahia, no período de 11 a 16 de junho de 2006.

em Química Medicinal

Estão abertas as inscrições para indicações para o IUPAC-Richter
Prize em Química Medicinal.
O prêmio IUPAC-Richter em Química Medicinal foi estabelecido por
doação da empresa Gedeon Richter, Ltd., Budapeste, Hungria no intuito
de reconhecer a importância Química Medicinal no melhoria da saúde da
humanidade. As indicações para o prêmio vão até 31 de março de 2006.

6. TDR Career Development Fellowships in Synthetic/Medicinal Chemistry
**********************************************************************
The drug discovery unit (GDR) of the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO
Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR)
has identified a number of potential lead structures through its
compound evaluation programmes. These are now helping to establish a
strong chemistry-driven drug discovery programme to identify
development candidates for the TDR target diseases - malaria,
leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis and
onchocerciasis, African trypanosomiasis and Chagas disease, leprosy,
dengue and tuberculosis.
TDR is seeking to fill 6 remaining postdoctoral positions in
synthetic/medicinal Chemistry at its various medicinal chemistry
workstations located in South Africa, USA, UK and Switzerland
(biopharmaceutical companies and academia). TDR invites young PhD
chemists from developing countries to apply for these positions.
Fellows will engage in the synthesis of analogues of TDR lead
compounds in order to explore structure-activity relations and
optimize anti-parasitic activity at designated TDR medicinal
chemistry centers. The fellows will be supported by TDR initially
for 1 year. The grant will cover the cost of reagents and supplies.
In keeping with the mission of TDR, these fellowships are designed to
help develop capacity in medicinal chemistry in diseases endemic
countries for the TDR disease portfolio.
It is expected that selected fellows will work closely with scientists
within the TDR supported compound evaluation network, thus forming a
wider integrated discovery program. In addition TDR will use the
services of senior medicinal chemists with industrial experience as
mentors (consultants) in this program.
Eligibility for the TDR Career Development Fellowships in
Synthetic/Medicinal Chemistry
1. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry
(synthetic or medicinal chemistry or phyto-chemistry) from a
recognized institution. Postdoctoral experience is an asset.
2. Experience in heterocyclic chemistry and understanding of modern
approaches for medicinal chemistry
3. Ideally applicants should be no more than 40 years of age, and must
have fixed employment at their home institutions, and are expected to
return home after the fellowship.
4. A letter of support from the Director of the applicant's home
institution documenting relevance of the fellowship training to the
applicant and the institution is required.

. A letter of reference from someone familiar with your academic
or professional background (appendix 3).

Discovery Research (GDR) , and the results communicated shortly
