National Forum of Chemistry Undergraduate Course Coordinators
In October 2005, the Sociedade Brasileira de Química, SBQ, organized the 1st National Meeting of Chemistry Graduation Course Coordinators as a means of providing a place for the integration and discussion of our undergraduate courses, for the termination of the Special Teaching Commissions of SESu-MEC in mid 2003.
During the 2nd Meeting, in November 2006, the coordinators decided in a plenary session that the Meeting should adopt the name of Forum, which happened in 2007.
Therefore, the Forum is a continuation of the Meetings and aims to bring together the coordinators of chemistry undergraduate courses to discuss current themes of interest for the education of chemistry undergraduate students. The workshops conducted by the SBQ aim at the education of chemists in the main areas of work, which are: i) the formation of skilled human recourses, ii) the stimulation of entrepreneurship and interdisciplinarity, iii) the regional decentralization and the fight against endogeny, and iv) the pro-active approximation of Academia and economic activity.
Química no Brasil: perspectivas e necessidades para a próxima década (Chemistry in Brazil: prospects and requirements for the next decade, see Workshop, CGEE-SBQ, October 2004) analyzes the configuration of the education process and the organization of research in chemistry and its suitability to the prospects and requirements of the economic activities and the determination of social policies in Brazil. It also deals with the education of chemists, its challenges and needs.
In summary, education is one of the greatest current concerns of the SBQ, which considers chemistry an important component of the socio-economic development of Brazil.
3rd Meeting of Chemistry Undergraduate Course Coordinators October 04 - 05, 2007
The SBQ and the CRQ-4a Região invite the chemistry undergraduate course coordinators to participate in the National Forum of Chemistry Undergraduate Course Coordinators to take place on October 4 - 5, 2007.
