Brazilian Chemical Society.

A forerunning chemistry society also named Sociedade Brasileira de Química was founded in 1922 and had its office located in Rio de Janeiro. It existed until 1951 and was rather active, organizing conferences and publishing the journal initially called Revista Brasileira de Chimica, and later called Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Química (the spelling was changed from Ch to Q in 1933). Launched in 1929, the journal ran until 1951, when the society was closed. The image shown gives the spirit of the time, when advertisements were known as "reclames." It was published in the December 1993 issue of the journal.

Further information on the first SBQ is available in Química Nova, 1996, 19, 445.
