Short History
The Simão Mathias Medal was created by the SBQ Board of Directors and Council to recognize and honor to individuals for their contributions to the development of chemistry in Brazil and the Sociedade Brasileira de Química.
Twelve medals have been awarded since its creation in 1997. The lecturers invited to deliver the keynote address of the SBQ Annual Meetings are also honored with the Simão Mathias Medal.
Until the year 2000, 25 personalities were awarded the Medal and joined the Simão Mathias Medal Gallery.
